Character Interview with Verchiel from Joleene Naylors Heart of the Raven

About Verchiel

Today we are welcoming to the blog the wonderful and talented Verchiel from Joleene Naylor's Amaranthine Series.

We first met Verchiel in Ties of Blood and he quickly became my favourite of all the characters. He is witty, charming and always finding trouble were ever he goes. In Heart of the Raven Verchiel did a lot to help fight on the side of good and help to redeem himself in the eyes of others but people dont seem to trust him no matter what.

My Interview

Hello Verchiel and Welcome to my blog!
Will you Tell us a little about yourself. Where do you fit into the story? What should we know about you?

Hello, hello! Thanks so much for having me! I always enjoy it when my amazing author lets me go out and about to play. She usually likes to keep a sharp eye on me. Something about getting in to trouble. Now, let me introduce myself, my name is Verchiel, and I’m the star of the Amaranthine series. Okay, so I don’t appear in the first two books, but I’m still the star. What? Jorick? Well, all right, he’s (sort of) the “romantic lead”, but come on. I’m a lot more fun than he is. I have more charisma, more personality, and I’m just cooler.

So How long have you been a vampire? And did you learn to use your powers right away or did it take time?

The year was 1695. I was young, she was… well she looked young and… you can imagine the rest. Truth be told, you’ll have to, because I don’t know more than that. I woke up to find Kateesha bending over me, and I don’t remember a thing before that, including being human. Vampire powers grow as we age, so I am always learning something new. I’m hoping to perfect my mind reading one day. As you know, it comes and goes…

What would you say has been the toughest part of your journey so far?

Oh! A serious question. All right, I’ll even be good and give you a serious answer for a change. It was quite a blow when Kateesha, the vampiress who turned me, took off for the New World and left me on my own. I mean sure, I can take care of myself, but what do you do when your mother walks off and leaves you at the train station, so to speak, without so much as a ticket stub? Of course, they didn’t have trains in 1710, but the idea is the same.

What would you say makes you laugh out loud?

Everything. Really. There’s something funny in every situation if you just know how to look for it.

What’s your greatest source of frustration?

People whose ideals are concrete. They think they know everything, and can judge anyone and any situation at a glance, but they don’t. I am constantly surprised about things after all these years, so there’s no way anyone else can know it all.

Who would you say is your best friend?

*Leans close to Amanda* Would you like to apply for the job, sweety? *winks*

LOL ....always the charmer!

Why do you think Jorick hates you so much?

Because he’s jealous of how awesome I am. But then, who wouldn’t be? It can’t be easy knowing that you’re being compared to someone as fun as me, day after day. Especially when you consider how pessimistic and grumpy poor old Jorick is. That and he’s worried I’m going to snatch little Kately from under his nose. But then, that goes back to how awesome I am.

Do you think the reason Katelina seems to always forgive you is because of the Kateesha blood tie between you?

Ooooooh! Good question! My first instinct is to point to the answer above, but you know, you may be on to something. That may be part of why Jorick is so jealous too. Then, of course, she did drink my blood that one time, so you have to factor that in.
What do you think is in store for the vampire nation now that Samael has been released from his tomb?

I’m looking forward to something quite interesting, and even though jorick says we’re going to the beach and then home, I don’t think that will happen. How can it? There’s a giant war brewing, or at the least some massive disaster, and there’s no way he can keep his nose out of it. So long as he’s poking around, I think I’ll hang out with him so I don’t miss the fun.

Thank you so much for coming by to answer a few questions Verchiel. We look forward to more of your adventures!

Absolutely loved it! I adore that cutie. He does the best interviews, and you ask the best questions.

Thanks so much Donna! I love Verchiel so much! he is a awesome character! My youngest daughter Lilyanna (who just turned 9) actually helped me come up with the questions I told her all about Verchiel and she came up with some great ideas and we got some great questions out of it.

You should have seen her face when she read Verchiels answers! oh it was priceless! she laughed and laughed! her favourite was the one about how awesome he is...lol

I think I like Verchiel so much because he reminds me of my husband. Who you can never be mad at because he does something silly and you have to laugh cause he is such an ass...lol...He is also charming and witty but has his dark and moody sides too being a musician and music writer.

Thanks so much for being a part of the tour! Verchiel and I had a lot of fun. Those were really awesome questions! Thanks to you and your daughter!

Thank you Joleene! we had so much fun! My daughter is so happy she can't remove the smile..lol
