WW4BB & BR Present: The Spread Some Indie Love Blog Hop Featuring: Ripley Patton!

Posted by wiccawitch4 on 6:13:00 am

This year I Chosen to throw my Love to an incredible and very talented author! I have read all of her series so far AND she has a new book coming out!

THE REAL INSPIRATION BEHIND THE GIRL WITH THE GHOST HAND

One of the most common questions asked about my PSS Chronicles series is what inspired the idea of Psyche Sans Soma, the paranormal birth defect my main character, Olivia Black, was born with. I get this question from readers all that time, as well as many of them telling me I wrote the PSS phenomenon so realistically that, at first, they thought it was real and looked it up on the internet. And I think the reason for this is that I based PSS on something that actually exists known as Phantom Limb Syndrome.

You see, I had a friend who was in a bad accident and he had to have his leg amputated. Shortly after he was fitted for his prosthetic, I was over at his house and he was taking his first steps in the back yard. He got this amazed look on his face and said, "It's weird, but I can feel the grass between my toes in the foot I don't have anymore. And I had a cramp last night in the leg I don't have anymore. My leg is gone, but my brain still thinks it's there."

When I got home that day, I did some research on Phantom Limb Syndrome and discovered it not only effects amputees but also people who were born without limbs in the first place. It seems, our brains are hard-wired to have a complete image of our body, even if that body never fully exists. And that fascinated me and sent me on a journey of imagination asking such questions as "What if children were born with visible phantom limbs made of energy? What special powers might those limbs hold? And how would society react to those who had them?"

And so Ghost Hand, the first book of my YA paranormal thriller series, was born. Since then, I've published book 2, Ghost Hold, and book 3, Ghost Heart, and the fourth and final book, Ghost Hope is available for pre-order now.

GET GHOST HAND FREE in e-book format at most major vendors to test out the series for yourself. It is also currently a featured Teen Fiction Novel on Wattpad.

Ghost Hand

Seventeen-year-old Olivia Black has a rare birth defect known as Psyche Sans Soma, or PSS. Instead of a right hand made of flesh and blood, she was born with a hand made of ethereal energy.

How does Olivia handle being the girl with the ghost hand? Well, she's a little bit morbid and a whole lot snarky.

Her mother thinks her obsession with death, black clothing, and the local cemetery is a bid for attention. But when Marcus, the new guy in Olivia's calculus class, stares at her like she's a freak, Olivia doesn't like it. And when her hand goes rogue, doing things she never imagined possible, Olivia finds herself running for her life with Marcus from a group of men bent on taking the power of her hand for their own nefarious purposes.

My Review

Ghost Hand by Ripley Patton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*This Book Was Given To Me By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review*

Incredible story! Ripley Patton is a talented and creative genius! I couldn't get enough of the story and certainly couldn't put it down..lol...this was so unique and intriguing that you never knew what was going to happen next and I loved that. I also loved that it was a story unlike any I have ever come across before. Totally unique and completely incredible!

I really enjoyed each and everyone of the characters in this story except maybe Jason who was a complete pain in the ass which I hope he gets better in the next book. Nose was cool and I liked his sense of humour, Yale is a passive guy who doesn't like to see others hurt and we didn't get to know much about him but I got the overall sense that he was a good guy to have at your back and Marcus well there were times I liked him and others I didn't but overall he was a good leader and a solid guy. Emma was one of my favs, she was a true and loyal friend and I hope we see more of her in book 2.

The bad guys were atrocious! they were everywhere an they never gave up! they were really good and really sneaky. they didn't pull any punches and they used heavy handed tactics to get what they wanted. In other words they were the ultimate villains! not to mention all the gadgets they used to their advantage! these guys were good and I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves next.

This was on the best Paranormal reads of the year as it was unique and totally original! a great read for all you Paranormal fans out there!

Ghost Hold

Olivia Black is back.

Only this time she's not the one in need of rescue.

Samantha James, rich, popular, and an award-winning composer at age seventeen, is the next target on the CAMFers' list. In order to convince Samantha to come with them, Olivia and Passion must pose as cousins, blend into the most affluent high school in Indianapolis, and infiltrate a mysterious cult known as The Hold.

Olivia doesn't expect it to be easy, even with the PSS guys backing them up. But what she discovers over the course of the mission will call into question everything she ever believed about herself, her family, and especially about Marcus, the guy she is undoubtedly falling in love with.

Wow! this book was freaking amazing! even better then book 1 I couldn`t put it down for a second! Ripley Patton imagination knows no bounds and there was treachery around every corner! you never knew who you could trust and the bad guys were coming out of the woodwork in this one.

I enjoyed getting to know passion better in this one as she is such and amazing character and I really didn`t know what to think of her at first. I hope everything works out better for her in the next book and I so can`t wait to read it!!!

I the ending in this one was so heartbreaking and tragic and I hope for a better beginning for the characters in the new book. The art and music in this one was amazing as art are only touched on in the first and being a big lover of both I revelled in these aspects of the book.

Ripley Patton is an true artist of storytelling! her words a masterful and unique symphony to her readers. I for one can not wait to see what more she has in store for us!

Ghost Heart

In the aftermath of a brutal tragedy, Jason and Passion are on the run. Marcus is lost beyond reach, and The Hold is in shambles. If that weren't enough, Olivia Black has been taken by the CAMFers to be used as Dr. Fineman's personal lab rat in his merciless quest to uncover the mysteries of Psyche Sans Soma once and for all. But only if he can break her.

They are scattered.
They are devastated.
They are ruined.

Their only hope is Olivia's stubborn determination to thwart her captors and unlock the secrets of her ghost hand before Dr. Fineman can. Will she finally find the strength within herself to embrace the full power of her PSS?

And will it even matter if Marcus has already betrayed her?

My Review

Ghost Heart by Ripley Patton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*This Book Was Given To Me By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review*

Amazing Book! Ripley Patton is a awesome storyteller and I couldn't get enough of this story! the twists the turns and the backbone of these characters was incredible and I loved every minute of their journey.

I couldn't wait for this book as I had so many unanswered questions from the last book about where the characters were going and what was going to happen, I found that Ripley is a sneaky and sassy writer and no matter how many questions she answers she leaves you hanging in the end with a thousand more!...lol...I really hope this isn't the end for the Ghost brigade as I like to call them as I really have grown attached and would like to read more to see what fate has in store for them now.

I really have grown fond of them all, Passion is a big fav of mine and I would really like to get to know more about the mysterious kids sis as I am sure everyone would. I really miss Nose and Yale and maybe they could meet someone like them in a new book.

If your as big a fan as I am of these books don't miss out on your chance to get this one as Ghost Heart is just that full of heart! get your copy today!

and Last but not lest! the new book coming out! The Fourth and Final Installment of the Series!

Olivia Black does not feel safe. Nightmares plague her sleep and haunt her days. If she has to endure one more minute stuck in a safe house in rainy Portland, she's going to lose it. When Mike Palmer sneaks off to find her sister Kaylee without her, it's the last straw. She has to do something.

Then Palmer's hackers find the Dome on a satellite feed: dark, abandoned and smack in the middle of the Oregon desert three hundred miles from where it started. If they can reach it before anyone else, they can crack the computer systems and access every piece of information on PSS the CAMFers and The Hold have ever collected.

But in order to do that, Olivia must return to the origin of her fears in a race against all the forces that have ever pitted themselves against her. She must unravel decades of deceit to reveal the true origins of Psyche Sans Soma to the world at last.

WW4BB & RABT Presents: A Release Day Blitz of The One by Danielle Allen

The cattiness.
The fights.
The shaming.

I don't generally watch reality television, but I definitely don't watch reality dating shows. Besides the fact that it's completely staged, it's a horrible depiction of people -- women especially.

Women are pitted against each other to compete for the affection of a man they "fall in love" with after a week or two.
I call B.S.
It is complete crap.

So when my best friend, Koko, was hired as a makeup artist o the set of the most popular reality dating show, The One, I teased her mercilessly.

She told me that if I didn't stop teasing her, she would get me back.

And she did...

Which is how I ended up as a contestant on The One.

“Ohhhh, yeah,” I remembered, familiarity of the case and the names flooding my brain. “’Sweet’. That case ended her music career, didn’t it? I loved that song. I vaguely remember that he was the one who wrote it, but they settled out of court, right?”

“Yes. But do you know what he looks like now?” My best friend inquired.

“No… I just remember being fascinated by the case because—”

“I’m going to go ahead and stop you right there,” she interrupted, cutting me off mid-sentence.

“We are not going to talk law right now. We are going to talk about you having the chance to bump uglies with Julian Winters. He is the—”

I frowned as I interjected, “The sheer fact that you said ‘bump uglies’ has disqualified you from giving me advice about anything in general, but sex specifically. You need to—”

A quick knock on the door followed by the sound of it being pushed open forced my sentence to end abruptly.

Excerpt

Italy (1800s)

He lay on the pit floor, limbs stiff from lack of movement. The crawl space no longer accommodated his length. With no light to guide him, he planned each movement to avoid scraping against the granite. First, he shuffled his legs, then rolled his shoulders to bring back the circulation. His skin pulled and itched like the devil. The gouges must be scabbing over, he thought.

He hadn’t tried to stand in a while, but he knew from the last time that he was almost tall enough to reach the pit’s lid. Just a little while longer and he’d try again. He was preserving energy and hoping to be healed enough to try jumping. She would come soon, he knew. For now, the darkness was reassuring. It calmed his mind. As long as he was alone in the dark, nothing hurt him.

He didn’t hear her approach. He never did. Light peeked through the pit’s lid, casting the iron bars in distorted shadows around him. He trembled and buried his eyes in the bend of his arm. Panicked, he struggled to shove his gangly, pubescent body into a crevice between two outcroppings. If he merged with the granite walls, maybe she wouldn’t be able to find him and do more damage.

“Come, come, now, little fiend.” Her voice cast a lure like the nectar of a carnivorous flower.

The boy squeezed his eyelids tight despite the arm shield. He knew who awaited him above. He squirmed further into the jagged stone. The taut scabs on his shoulders cracked open and bled. He did not bother to scream or beg. Nothing ever saved him from whatever agony she came to inflict. Instead he prayed, “Help me, God, please. Do not let her see me this time. Hide me.”

“Where are you, little fiend?”

He felt her mind rummage around for him like a blind man groping for his cane. Something new, he thought. Didn’t she know where he was? Couldn’t she see him? The pit was a scant six-foot cube and she waved the candelabra close enough so that hot wax splattered atop his forearms.

“Come here you little fiend!” Her voice turned shrill. “Give me back what’s mine!”

Her ham-fisted attempts to locate him left him halfway between fear and confusion. Why couldn’t she see him? Or touch him with her mind? By now, he should be frozen, mid-air with tangled clops of hair his only clothing. Fear ebbed into curiosity. He dared to lower his arm and peel his lids open. Even with his head still bowed, the candle-glow forced him to squint.

Here lay the true test, he knew. If his tormentor really couldn’t see him or sense him, she wouldn’t react to his gaze. He’d learned long ago to avert his eyes in her presence. He hadn’t glimpsed his tormentor up close in six years. The boy swallowed the upsurge of fear and snapped his head back before he lost his nerve.

He blinked several times to sharpen his vision. He recoiled, scraping the skin at the point of his hip. Another blink, then he relaxed. Hair. Her obsidian tresses dangled down between the iron grate, seeming to reach for him. Her face was contorted from its cloying perfection, but not in reaction…more from anger or maybe frustration he guessed. He continued to stare, shocked, not sure what to do. How long would her…blindness or whatever it was, last? She started to screech obscenities and jab around with her mind. The violent brush of her mind jerked him from his stillness. He used the jagged wall behind him to pull himself upright. Gaunt, with wobbly knees and a hobbled gait, he crept close enough to fan his hand in front of her eyes.

“Mama?” His voice sounded croaky from non-use.

No reaction.

Then, he caught sight of his arm, the arm that should have been fanning before him. There was only empty space. With a huff of amazement, he glanced around him. His body cast no shadow. It was as if he had faded from existence, become part of the void.

WW4BB Presents: A Review of Miss Frost Solves A Cold Case : A Nocturne Falls Mystery by Kristen Painter

Posted by wiccawitch4 on 7:26:00 am

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year.

Jayne Frost is a lot of things. Winter elf, Jack Frost’s daughter, Santa Claus’s niece, heir to the Winter Throne and now…private investigator. Sort of.

Needing someone he can trust, her father sends her undercover to Nocturne Falls to find out why employees at the Santa’s Workshop toy store are going missing.

Doing that requires getting to know the town, which leads to interesting encounters with a sexy vampire, an old flame, and an elevator that’s strictly off-limits. The more Jayne finds out, the more questions she has, but the answers lead her deeper into danger.

Will her magic save her? Or will she come up cold?

My Review

Miss Frost Solves A Cold Case : A Nocturne Falls Mystery by Kristen Painter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was given to me by the Author In Exchange For an Honest Review.

This book was beautiful, inspiring and creative! Kristen never fails to amaze and wow when it comes to her incredible generous, she has talent in spades and this series shows how she can whip it out in handfuls of ice and snow!..lol

Jayne Frost daughter of the renown Jack Frost is coming to Nocturne Falls to investigate a string of disappearing winter elves. Jayne is a wonderful character, I found her to be full of life and heartfelt emotion. She really doesn't want to be a princess, she just wants to be herself. She finds that people treat her differently because of her status and she doesn't like it. She wants to be like everyone else.

Jaynes investigation leads her down some dark and dangerous paths, her curiosity also gets her into to trouble a lot. She has magic on her side though and she gets her way out of it more then she doesn't. She is very resourceful and brave and defiantly someone I would want on my side in a fight.

Juniper and Buttercup were very interesting characters. As Jaynes friends they we great and I loved them both and as individuals they were both very different. Juniper you couldn't help but love she was quirky, bubbly, and fun. She was always nice and always happy and would forgive anyone anything. Buttercup on the other hand is a little more of the higher maintenance type of friend, she is opinionated, sharp and sassy. I really liked her because of these things as well because it took more to earn her friendship and she wouldn't hold back when she had something to say.

Kristen Painter is an amazing author! I have read and loved her books forever and every time I read one I am still blown away by her talent. She can go from genre to genre with a bat of a eyelash, and create characters in the magic of a smile. She is creative genius and I can never wait to read the words from the next stroke of her pen.

don't miss out on your chance to do it too! get your hands on this new series today!
