Authors: Sheena Boekweg, Melanie Crouse and Sabrina West
Genre: YA Parnormal Romance
Blurb
We didn’t know how much we had to lose until we were infected with magic. Sam was in love, Juliette was the main caretaker for her siblings, and Ana and her dad planned the best parties in New York. But we lost it all when we were shipped to Chebeague, an exclusive school for newly infected mages.
Everyone knows about the mages, those who survive the infection and end up with magical abilities. We’ve seen the power of magic, the high-paying jobs, and the world fame. But we never saw the cost. We didn’t know we’d be forced to give up everything: sanity, family, even the right to talk on the phone. We didn’t know mage was just another word for prisoner.

Controlling my temper has been a lifelong struggle. But ever since I
learned my magic was connected to my emotions, I realize my efforts had been a
lot more specific than that. Perhaps I’d better say that not punching people in
the face has been a lifelong process. Up until now, as long as I didn’t act on
my temper, all was well.
And now… well, have you ever tried not experiencing a feeling? Ever since
my powers broke through, every time I lose my temper, I end up shattering
whatever I touch into pieces. And since this place seems to be designed to piss
me off, the toll has been significant. I have so far accidentally destroyed two
chairs, a lamp, a desk, four pencils, one crappy lunch room hamburger, a paper
maché sculpture, and one unfortunate
cactus.
To add insult to injury, I still couldn’t perform any magic on command.
And I couldn’t even control what it is I destroy when I’m mad. I mean, I could
try to stand close to Heather Chan’s violin every time I’m angry, but she caught
on pretty quickly and took to keeping far away from
me.
I really was trying though. Once I even managed to keep my temper under
control for three whole days. But that night, in the middle of a lovely dream
where I was marrying Frank Sinatra, I discovered that my wedding band was made
up of a whole orchestra of Heather Chans, all horridly out of tune. I awoke in a
confusion of sawdust, cotton, and metal springs. Bits of white fluff drifted
toward the ceiling. I spat out a feather and decided that my life could hardly
sink lower.
About the Authors
Sabrina West, Sheena Boekweg and Melanie Crouse never dreamed they would actually create a book worth publishing when they started writing together. Alchemy was merely supposed to be an exercise in flexibility. And it has been that, but it is so much more. Friendships that span the American continent have been forged, and unforgettable characters have been created.Writing this first book in the Prophecy Breakers was a fun-filled adventure, and we hope that reading it is just as fun for you.
