"It's us and them, Em. There are no regular people anymore."
Ten years ago when the world ended she ran for her life.
Five weeks ago the world she'd hidden from came knocking on the door of her secluded cabin.
Ten days ago she found salvation hiding amongst the dead.
Yesterday she went back for the living.
Today she wonders if she will live to see tomorrow.
What do you do when the world you were born to is gone?
Where do you hide when even your own body isn't safe?
Emma ran when her daddy told her to. She hid like he said she should. He was the first person she turned her back on. The first one she let die.
Ten years has gone by and she still lives by the simple rules he taught her when she was nine years old.
"Don't help anyone. Don't go where other people are unless you have to. Trust no one. Always pull the trigger."
Until one night she hears the worst sound in the world, a knock. A simple, timid knock, on the door to her cabin.
Only the voice of the brave little girl, ready to die for her brother, persuades Emma to open the door.
As her fingers turn the lock, she has a terrible feeling she will regret her decision.
But even as regret fills her world, so do love and companionship. Things she never imagined she would ever have again.
Everything comes at a cost, you decide what you'll pay.

The Fourth Marker by L. William Gibbons
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed this book! it was sooo fantastic! I loved reading it! This was such a heartwarming and intriguing story full of life, love and history. I Think William Gibbons did an amazing job of telling this amazing and wonderful story.
Gabe Townsend, a child on the family farm during the Great Depression has rejected legends of his Native American ancestors and ignored the miraculous cures of three of his family members. Gabriel's half-breed grandfather, Noopah, who once tried to teach him the tribal legends and the old ways. Noopah explains that in death tribal elders returned to their lands in spirit form after their deaths and they rested at a sacred hill on the family's land, protecting their descendants from early death and white man's diseases.
Gabriel's father is miraculously cured, but Gabe's mother blindly credit's his recovery to the field of modern medicine. After the recovery, a person of evil character and not of tribal blood disappears, followed by the mysterious appearance of a wood marker on the sacred tribal hill.
Facing the loss of his wife, Gabriel relives his childhood memories Gabriel begs the spirits to take him in place of his wife, knowing that there will be a Fourth marker upon the hill that would signify his own life – and death. As Gabe's father noted, "some understand only what they see; others see only what they understand."
This was an amazing book! I loved the history and the legends! As a Native American myself I was so touched by Gabriel and his story in a way that I think would touch many of us! Gabriel's life and his challenges touch many hearts as many of us have lost loved ones and wish we could save them. William makes the story so real you believe you can reach out and touch it!
William Gibbons is a superb author and I would read more for sure! if you haven't read this one be sure to put it on your TBR list as it is a book you don't want to miss!

Elderly Gabriel Townsend is being crushed between the metaphoric anvil of his pragmatic beliefs and the falling hammer of his wife's pending death.
As a child, he scorned the legends of his Native American ancestors and ignored miraculous cures of three family members during the Great Depression. Now facing the loss of his wife, he relives childhood memories, guided by the spirit of his grandfather from beyond - well beyond - the grave. He recalls that, each time a family member was cured, another person of evil character and not of tribal blood disappeared, followed by the mysterious appearance of another wood marker on a sacred tribal hill on the family's land. Finally accepting the truth of long ago, Gabriel plans to beg the elder's spirits to take his life in exchange for his wife's, aware that a fourth marker would symbolize his life - and his death.

“I thought you were good. That some part of you was good.”
In a blink of an eye, Balthazar stood right in front of her. Arianne yelped. He took her wrist and brought the tip of the knife to the center of his chest. With his other hand, he tilted her chin up so she could look into the white center of his black irises. His silver hair rained over his forehead, covering the crease that marred its usual smoothness.
“You think I’m the good guy?” he whispered. She continued trembling, worse now. He leaned down until his lips touched her ear. “I’m not.”

The Flight of Red Bird: The Life of Zitkala-Sa by Doreen Rappaport
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was a amazing and incredibly inspiring book! I remember when I first bought back when it first came out, I so loved and cherished this book and wanted everyone I knew to read it. It has passed from all hands of family and friends and lovingly found its way back to me again and I thought I should post a review because I have always loved the book so very much.
In 1884 eight year old Gertrude Bonnin was taken from her family on the Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota and brought to a Quaker-run boarding school in Indiana. Like thousands of other Indian children at the time, she was forced to become"civilized"- to give up her languge, customs, dress, and religious practices. Angry and humiliated at being coerced into renouncing her heritage, and torn between two cultures, she rebelled. Later she harnessed her anger and became on of the most important Native American Reformers of the early twentieth century.
Renaming herself Zitkala-Sa, which means "Red Bird," she became a writer, lecturer, and activist. She devoted her life to making white audiences aware of the injustices done to Native Americans and fought for legislation to better their lives.
In re-creating Zitkala-Sa's life for readers, Doreen Rappaport drew from Zitkala-Sa's own moving and dramatic writings, scoured archives throughout the united states, visited reservations where she lived, spoke with Native American scholars and to those who knew her. Powerful and Memorable, The flight of the Red Bird will inspire every reader who has ever dreamed of making a difference.
I couldn't put this book down when I was reading it and I know you wont be able to either. As a Native American I went through so many ranges of emotion while reading this book but what I felt when I was done was pride. Pride in Red Bird and pride in Natives as a whole that we have come so far, and I know that we can still go farther!
If you haven't read this book please do as it is a definite TBR!

Posted by wiccawitch4 on 10:28:00 am
It's finally here, the hotness that is Balthazar. Check out the cover of Unreap My Heart by Kate Evangelista, the next book in the Reaper Series.
Only a villain can save the day.
During his thousand year banishment in the Nethers, Balthazar thought of nothing but taking over the Crossroads from Death.
On the day he puts his plans into action, Balthazar finds the Crossroads on lockdown. Death has been stabbed by Brianne’s Bitterness, a blade that slowly leaches him of his powers. In order to challenge Death for his seat and prevent utter chaos, Balthazar is forced into a mission to find the Redeemer, the only being capable of pulling out the blade from Death’s chest. The only person who can identify the Redeemer is a human girl in the Crossroads whose soul is still attached to her body.
Meeting Arianne Wilson pushes Balthazar’s patience to the limit. In a deal he makes with Death, he must protect Arianne during their journey through the Underverse using all the resources available to him. He soon realizes the one he needs to protect is himself. For as much harm as it inflicts on Balthazar's body, trekking through the Underverse with Arianne is proving more dangerous for his heart and soul.
Can the villain remain a villain when love gets in the way?
Be careful letting this bad boy into your heart...he may just crush it.
To celebrate the coming release of Unreap My Heart on September 17, Omnific has a surprise for all of you.
Then, just to make this day even more awesome, Reaping Me Softly is on SALE for .99c! Can you believe it? Read where it all began by grabbing your copy today on Amazon. You're one click away.

Flame Caller by Jon Messenger
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Amazing and Incredible Read! Jon had done it again! I couldn't put the book down! I think it may be even better then the last one, He sure has our done himself for sure! there was even more action and drama, more power and intrigue and most of all more adventure!
THE EARTH GIVES WAY TO THE SEA,
THE SEA BOWS BEFORE THE WIND,
THE WIND FEEDS THE FLAME,
THE FLAME BURNS THE WORLD OF MAN DOWN TO THE EARTH.
Xander may have survived the first round with the fire Caste but what he lost far out weighs the rewards. With his parents now gone and his grandfather in a coma Xander literally has the worlds survival on his shoulders. His home town has been over taken by the fire Caste and Xander's only solace is that he has the other wind warriors and now Sammy by his side. Xander feels that it all maybe hopeless as the world crumbles under the onslaught of the Fire Warriors.
Sammy feels so bad for Xander and tries to be their for him as much as she can, but it is hard to be away from the people she has always known and only home she has ever had. She feels safe with Xander like she never has before, but she has been hiding a secret one that she knows may tear them apart.
When Sammy is Kidnapped and their home is compromised Xander has no choice but to put his feelings of revenge aside and do what is best for the earth and Sammy. Xander goes in search of the Wind Elemental the mythical creature that started the wind Caste, hoping she can help. But no one has ever seen her and the stories are just myths right? no one knows, and Xander's hoping for the worlds sake and for Sammy's that they find her.
I sooooo loved this book! Jon blew me away with the first book and then again with this one! I loved Sammy in the first book and I still loved her in this one but I thought she could have stood up for herself a little more with Patrick and Thea, she was so strong in the first book and she seemed so lost and out of her element in this book(which I guess she was...LOL) because when she was kidnapped she became the strong and defiant Sammy I loved again!
The Fire Caste as a whole are a pretty formidable enemy in as themselves but with General Abraxas
and the big bad "eye" behind the throne well they are just plain bad ass as far and villains go!
Jon Messenger is a brilliant author and I can't wait for the next book! if you haven't read these book you sooooo have to NOW!

THE EARTH GIVES WAY TO THE SEA,
THE SEA BOWS BEFORE THE WIND,
THE WIND FEEDS THE FLAME,
THE FLAME BURNS THE WORLD OF MAN DOWN TO THE EARTH.
White Halls is no longer a sleepy little town. Its houses lie smoldering on their foundations. The residents take refuge in their homes, afraid to leave. And the town’s prodigal son and newest Wind Warrior, Xander Sirocco, has fled.
Xander survived the first assault on his life by the Flame Caste, but it’s at a great personal cost. He and Sammy are left to bury his family and tend to his grandfather, who lies in a coma.
With the weight of the world on his shoulders, he can’t help but feel the fight against the Fire Caste is hopeless. It seems that way, that is, until he learns of a secret race of Elementals, embodiments of the elemental powers that the different castes wield. With the power of the Elementals comes a chance to save not just the Wind Warriors and Sammy, but the world itself.
Emboldened, he sets off to find the Wind Elemental and with it, the hope for his survival. Too bad no one has seen the Wind Elemental in generations and now thinks she’s just a myth. As he quickly learns, however, the Fire Elemental isn’t a myth. It’s real and it has a secret plan for his girlfriend.
And it won’t stop until Xander is dead.

Posted by wiccawitch4 on 2:02:00 pm
Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.
Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.
Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they're triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.
These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful gorgon maligned by myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight.

Book Description
What would you do if you thought you had escaped only to find you are caught in LEON'S LAIR?This international thriller/contemporary fantasy is a nail-biting ride that is grisly but somewhat tongue-in-cheek, a brutal tale of horror and the occult that doesn't take itself too seriously. It includes romance, continental adventure, action, suspense, and dozens of vivid characters from around the world.
The adventure starts with The Jakarta, an elegant cruise ship sailing the exotic seas in Indonesia with a passenger list of ninety unsuspecting people. Jane and her best friend, Remy, are just getting to know the rest of the small group of young twenty-somethings when the ship is attacked by pirates. However, Leon and his band are not your usual pirates – they want something else.
Jane and two male companions escape the horror, fleeing in a lifeboat. In their flight to escape Leon and his men, they become lost at sea for weeks, are out of water, and have nearly lost hope of ever finding rescue when they finally catch sight of land, a dangerous rainforested island that seems deserted. However, their fight for survival has only just begun.
They are not alone.
Fate is cruel because this island is Leon's Lair.
