About Sarah Daltry

Website

Sarah Daltry writes about the regular people who populate our lives. She’s written works in various genres – romance, erotica, fantasy, horror. Genre isn’t as important as telling a story about people and how their lives unfold. Sarah tends to focus on YA/NA characters but she’s been known to shake it up. Most of her stories are about relationships – romantic, familial, friendly – because love and empathy are the foundation of life. It doesn’t matter if the story is set in contemporary NY, historical Britain, or a fantasy world in the future – human beings are most interesting in the ways they interact with others. This is the principle behind all of Sarah’s stories.
Sarah has spent most of her life in school, from her BA and MA in English and writing to teaching both at the high school and college level. She also loves studying art history and really anything because learning is fun.
When Sarah isn’t writing, she tends to waste a lot of time checking Facebook for pictures of cats, shooting virtual zombies, and simply staring out the window.

My Review

Queen of Hearts: Sin City Collectors Novella by Kristen Painter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was awesome! I loved how Kristen put this one together! she is a wonderful writer and her imagination takes us into new and amazing places in this one! I really enjoyed the characters and the new types of supernaturals.

the villain in this one wasn't quite as ruthless a some of the villains Kristen has had in other of her stories but still formidable none the less! He sure makes a nuisance of himself throughout and by the end even I was ready to take him out..lol

I found the use of a Gargoyle shifter fascinating as you don't see them in books often and never in the way that Kristen has written this one. I found myself completely captivated and never wanting the story to end as I really wanted to know more about all these Gargoyles!

This book was totally amazing! I love Kristen's writing and am a HUGE fan. I am also a big fan of the supernatural genre and if you are too then this is a definite read for you! go and get your copy today!

WW4BB & RABT Presents: A Review of Earth by Jessica Frances

Posted by Amanda Masters on 7:31:00 am

Synapses

Earth is being invaded. There was no warning and no time to stage any kind of defense. Instead countries started to go silent. They were no longer reachable and no one knew what was happening.
So when Canada went dark; everyone knew America would be next.

My name is Matilda, but everyone calls me Mattie. I was at college in Oregon when the attack began. By the time Canada went quiet, we’d had enough. So two of my friends and I decided to join the fight in Vancouver and find out what was really happening.
That is when everything changed. What we found was death, destruction and machines that were slaughtering humans. There would be no escape for us; no place to go where the machines couldn't reach us.
I had no future, but then I met him.

My name is Marduke and I’m part of the reason Earth is being invaded. I’m from a different planet and even though I look human, I’m not. But when Earth was invaded, I began running from my family and running for my life.
Then she saved me.
She made me feel something I’d never felt before. She saved my life and opened my heart to the possibility of love, she changed me forever.

What are the chances of finding your true love right when the world is ending? What kind of cruel fate places them together under those circumstances?
What is she supposed to do when he tells her he is not from Earth?
When she finds out that he is one of the invaders?
What does she do when she finds out everything she thought she knew was wrong?
What does he do when he has to make a choice between protecting her and saving himself?
How can they overcome everything standing in their way?

My Review

Earth by Jessica Frances
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. Jessica Frances is a brilliant writer, who keeps her readers on the edge of there seats throughout the entire book! the characters were wonderful and the storyline awesome, I loved the invasion it brought to mind alien movies like incandescence day and such as the battles were just as epic.

I liked that Marduke struggled with his loyalties and didn't just give them up for the girl. This showed he was a well rounded character and it made him appear more human. Mattie was a strong, loyal, independent person but you could see her vulnerable sides at times and I liked that, especially when her friends where in danger or threatened.

Jess and Hank cracked me up! who hooks up in the middle of the end of the world? they do!...lol...they were so sweet and Hank really liked taking care of Jess as she was a complete pile of tears, but you could see a hidden strength in jess that when it came right down to it she could be brave to save her friends and others.

If you haven't read this I highly recommend it! a great read for any Alien fans out there!

Excerpt

The truck moves again and this time we do topple over. Neither of us have put seatbelts on, so we both crash to the ceiling, my head taking most of the impact as my legs fall into the steering wheel.

I scream in shock, and as my mind catches up, I realise there is no way Hank and Lisa would be okay after being crushed into the road.

“Hank!” I scream out again, panicking as the truck is hit once more and we slide along the road. “Lisa!” I screech when we finally stop and hands grab hold of me, dragging me through the windshield which broke long ago.

It’s Hank, and as he drags me free, he quickly moves back to take hold of Marduke. Blood pours down from my forehead, but I don’t bother checking myself any further. My eyes first find the machine as it leers over us then I see Lisa off to the side, hiding by some bushes.

“We need to get out of here, now!” Hank has Marduke up and on his feet. The truck shakes as the machine shoots at it, and I’m half expecting a fireball to burst out at us.

“Take this!” I thrust the grenade into Hank’s hand and then wrap Marduke’s arm over my shoulder.

Hank begins shooting with the handgun, heading around the truck and jogging in the opposite direction to Lisa.

I stumble her way with Marduke, hoping Hank can keep the attention on him while we get away.

Marduke grunts in pain as he has to put heavy pressure on his knee, and I cry in shock when I feel his body jolt forward from the impact of a bullet hitting his back. He pushes me off him and I lose my balance, falling to the ground.
“Run!” he yells at me. But before I can even consider moving at all, an explosion erupts and everything goes black.

Born and raised in South Australia, Jessica spends her days working in a bakery, afternoons catching up on lost sleep, and nights reading and writing. After having the Taken Trilogy taking up space in her head for years, she was relieved to have a break and her mind clear. But apparently the free rent was spoken to Mattie and her friends, because now she is hearing new voices and a whole new story. The Invasion Trilogy was then born.

WW4BB & GCR Presents: A Book Highlight of CM Hutton's HONEST LOVE

Posted by Amanda Masters on 12:15:00 am

Title: Honest Love
Author: CM Hutton
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Starting over was never easy for anyone.

I’d heard the stories over and over.

But after the hell my ex-husband had put me through over the last year, over the last twenty years…well, I was ready to move on, repair what was left of my shattered heart and find someone to share my life with—someone who would put me first.
I deserved it. I’d done my time being in her shadow, being a cheap understudy, always second. For. All. Those. Years.
Never again.

Our move to San Diego provided a fresh start, a new place away from all the hurt and memories. Life as a single mom to three teenagers had its' challenges, but we were adjusting and my kids were doing well.

It was time to focus on my happiness, for once. I had a huge capacity to love and I wanted to share my love with a man that respected it, accepted it and gave it in return.

It was just a matter of time before he found me and showed me what true, honest love was all about.

Claire

Every now and then, during his session, I’d notice an odd glance or two from him, but ignored it. I didn’t want his negative shit adding to my own. This was my job. I was his physical therapist, not his friend or counselor, and this job was what would keep me going while I learned to wrap my head around my new life.

Derek didn’t say much. He grunted a few times when I pushed him harder, but other than that, nothing.

It wasn’t until we were just about done and I was giving him our customary mini relaxation massage, that I took the opportunity to really take a good look at him. Derek removed his shirt as he laid face down on the massage table in my therapy room and an involuntary gasp escaped from me.

Wasnt expecting that.

Most patients didn’t remove their clothing as these massages were only meant to relieve the tension built up in the body as a result of the stress from working an injury.  He’d apparently heard me because a small, stupid grin turned up on one corner of his mouth. I ignored him.

He was tall and lean, not too bulky, and his skin was tan and smooth…defined. I noticed a few tattoos on his ribs. I’d never been much on body ink, but it was sexy on Derek and I couldn’t stop staring at it as I slowly rubbed the tension from his neck and shoulders.

Yeah, you could say I was attracted to him.

___________________________________________

Derek

Claire seemed nice. Actually she seemed like she probably wouldn’t take any crap from me. And I didn’t think she knew who I was…always a good thing.

She was good at her job. I had a feeling I’d be back on the truck soon. My life as a firefighter was about all I had to keep my mind occupied. Football used to do that for me.

Nothing but tainted memories now.

I shook my head, brushed off my thoughts and focused more on my new therapist. I’d asked her a few questions, which she answered willingly. I was curious about Claire, but my pissy mood made my questions come out way too harsh and nasty.

I just hoped I could stop staring at her. She was shorter than me. Maybe 5’5” with beautiful blonde hair and amazing brown eyes. Not who I would typically pay attention to, but what the hell did I know? The only girl I’d ever loved was Claire’s complete opposite with dark brown hair, blue eyes and really tall.  She’d also ripped my heart out and practically ate the damn thing right in front of me.

Maybe Claire was just what I needed.

But first, I had to find out more about her past and what lead her to San Diego.

I’m a wife, a mom of three, a friend, an aunt, a sister, a daughter and a teacher.  Now, I can add writer to my list!  I’ve always wanted to write and finally found inspiration and support to do it.
I live near Austin, Texas with my family and love to read and travel.  Put me on a beach with a good book and the world just disappears around me.
Paradise Taken was my first novel and is a highly emotional book based on true events.  Its sequel (Saving Us) is due out February 2014.
Loving Her was the second book I wrote after needing a little time off from Paradise Tak-en.  It is a story close to my heart.
I love that you are willing to take a chance on a new writer and promise to keep striving to put out great books!

WW4BB Presents: An Weekend Author Spotlight with Kimberly Loth Author of Kissed!

Posted by Amanda Masters on 12:05:00 am

What Readers are Saying About Kissed

I’ve been absolutely floored by the positive response I’ve gotten for Kissed. I knew I wrote a good book, but I wasn’t quite expecting all the love I’ve received. I checked yesterday and I’m up to forty reviews on amazon. All five of those stars are colored yellow. (The average is actually something like 4.75, but Amazon rounds up). I have no words to express how grateful I am to great readers who take the time to write reviews.

Here is what a few readers had to say about Kissed:

I could go on and on about how rant worthy and fandom worthy this book is but I think you get the point. This book is a sensational, swoon worthy, whirlwind that keeps you guessing till the very end. –Robin H

This book is packed full of raw emotion and beautiful language. the story is amazing; I don't know how it could get any better! –Abi

From the first page I was completely hooked to the story. I felt for Naomi, a sweet girl who was trapped in a abusive life. Despite all the injustice she suffered, she still held on to hope that things would get better. The paranormal aspect of the story was one I've never seen before, very original. There's plenty of romance and cute boys. –M.H. Soars, Author of The Prophecy of Arcadia

This is a page-turner from the beginning. Naomi's growth throughout the story draws you in, and the romance will leave you fanning yourself. Loth does a great job of creating a sympathetic heroine who, in learning to love also learns to fight for that love in a powerful way. –Karen Akins, Author of Loop
This book is so good I couldn't stop reading---I read all night to finish it, then I read it again! Such an exciting story, and I felt completely drawn to the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone. –Virginia W.

KISSED is a wild ride that takes the reader form a small town in Arkansas to the bright lights of the big city. This is a story to read over and over again. –Mandy S.

Don’t take just take their word for it. Your very own Amanda reviewed it too. Here’s her review: http://bit.ly/1y7dDyq

Guest Blogging

I spend about half my writing time guest blogging these days. I write a lot of posts. I’ll let you in on a secret. I’m not crazy about blogging. I love reading blogs, I don’t like writing them. I’d rather write a book. When I finish a writing a post I’m usually fairly happy with it. But every once in awhile there are those posts that I adore. The ones that take me only a few minutes to write because they come so easily. They are rare. I thought I’d share a few of those with you today.

On Being Brave:

I’m a chicken. My heart races at the thought of heights, snakes, and the dark. I don’t like going outside at night and I think people who go on solo adventures in the mountains are crazy. Don’t even get me started on social functions.

You know how many parties I went to in high school? One. I called my dad halfway through that and asked him to pick me up. Why? I’m shy and socially awkward. The thought of having to talk to all those people and figure out what to say brings out all my anxieties.

Books changed me though.

The Power of Gratitude:

The other day I had an interesting conversation with my husband. We were talking about the old days when were young, broke, and miserable. We always had families that we were friends with that we admired, people that seemed to have it all together. Truthfully, at times, we were green with envy. We wanted to have it all together too. How was that everything just fell into their laps. Plus, they were always so happy. I remember thinking, “why did I get the short end of the stick?”

My favorite couples in YA lit:

I read almost exclusively YA novels, but I read a wide variety of genres within that. Today I’d like to share with you my favorite couples in YA lit.

Historical Fiction: Jacky Faber and Jamie Fletcher From Bloody Jack by L.A. Meyer. I could never write historical fiction and I’m not crazy about it as a genre but this is one of my all time favorite series. Currently there are nine or ten books in the series and I love every single one of them. Jacky is a feisty girl who pretends to be a boy so she can work as a ships boy in the early 19th century. She’s got serious spunk and attitude and poor Jamie can’t seem to hang on to her. In spite of the fact that they often end up on opposite sides of the globe, she still loves Jamie fiercely.

Learning new things from reading fiction:

I consider myself a lifelong learner. I love learning new things. And I love books that teach me about new things or places. One of the first things I often do when I finish a book is Google the setting, a hobby a character had or something else interesting I found in the book. My favorite books are ones that not only captured me up in the story but one that taught me something I never knew before. For example, in North of Beautiful by Justina Chen her main character loves maps and learns how to geocache. I’d never heard of the concept before that book. Now, it’s a hobby that I enjoy.

I got to interview the lovely and talented Kimberly Loth author of the incredible book Kissed! this inchanted story pulled me in and left me totally within its grasp!

Kimberly is a wonderful author whose stories are truly captivating and completely unique, with characters that you will never want to leave behind.

This is a book that you will not want to miss out on so make sure to go out and get your copies today! and don't forget to enter our giveaway!

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what made you delve into the world of writing?

I’ve always loved making up stories and as a child I often lived in my own little make believe world. I never really did much about it until I listened to a talk about being creative and sharing talents. I was touched and started writing the very next day.

Q: Can you please tell us a little about your book Kissed and what inspired you write it?

So many things. It started as a runaway daydream. Kai was actually the first character I developed. The setting was inspired by the place I lived at the time, it was such a pretty place to live. The roses came from my own love of roses and wanting to learn more about them.

Q: Can you tell us about your writing process? Which comes first? The character's story or the idea for the novel?

Usually the story comes first. I write a super fast short first draft while I’m getting to know my characters. Then I go back and all the details. From the first to final draft the book usually doubles. I use A LOT of beta readers.

Q: What made you want to write as story with a Cult like back ground?

More than one person commented on the fact that it would be extremely weird to have a boy sneak into your room and kiss you. Which is so true. I needed to make Naomi’s background strange enough that it wouldn’t seem weird. I wanted her to have seen enough weird things that the unusual didn’t feel so unusual. It also had to be bad. She had to want to escape. The cult actually evolved quite a bit over the course of the many drafts I wrote. Every draft it got creepier and creepier.

Q: Why did you have Naomi choose Kai in the end instead of Puck?

That’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? All will be revealed in book two. Though I did offer a sneak peek to my mailing list that explains a lot of the reasoning behind it. (Hint, hint, if you want to know, go sign up for the mailing list. You get 34 pages of deleted scenes and the sneak peek. http://bit.ly/1p6Jvgr)

Q: The Roses where a wonderful and inspiring touch to the story. What made you incorporate them into the story?

I’ve always loved roses. I’ve also enjoy reading books that teach me something new. I wanted to bring that aspect to Kissed. The roses did that for me. I learned so much about them and they just fit into the story so well.

Q: Do you have any strange writing habits (like standing on your head or writing in the shower)?

I get a lot of ideas in the shower, but I don’t write there. I would say the strangest writing habit I have is that I do a lot of writing on the bus. We live in Egypt and I teach at an American School. We have 45 minute bus ride to and from school. That’s an hour and a half of dedicated writing time (no internet) and so I get a lot done on the bus.

Q: What books/authors have influenced your life?

What books haven’t? So many. Judy Bloom, R. L. Stine, Stephenie Meyer, Clare Dunkle, Tamora Pierce, L. A. Meyer, and I could go on and on. I’m a voracious reader and I love anything YA.

Q: What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

Nothing scheduled yet. Book two will probably be out in December, but I don’t have a firm release date yet. Otherwise, I have a contemporary and high fantasy in the works.

Q: Thank you so much for the interview, Kimberly Loth. Would you like to tell my readers where they can find you on the web and where everyone can buy your book?

Thank you for having me! Here is where you can find the book: http://amzn.to/1oeQAPf

Blurb

Trapped in a dark cult, sixteen-year-old Naomi Aren has lived a quiet, albeit unhappy, life nestled deep in the hills of the Ozarks. With uncut hair, denim skirts, and only roses for friends, Naomi seldom questions why her life is different from other kids at school. Until the day her abusive father, who is also the cult’s leader, announces her wedding. Naomi must marry Dwayne Yerdin, a bully who reeks of sweat and manure and is the only one person who scares her worse than her father. Then she meets Kai, the mysterious boy who brings her exotic new roses and stolen midnight kisses. Kisses that bring her a supernatural strength she never knew she had. As the big day approaches, Naomi unearths more secrets of about her father’s cult. She learns she has power of her own and while Kai may have awakened that power, Naomi must find a way to use it to escape Dwayne and her father—without destroying herself.

Fun Facts about Roses

My main character loves roses. She’s a bit obsessed, to be honest. I learned a lot about roses as I was researching things for the book. Here are some cool things I never knew about roses.

1. The American Rose Association states that there are 30 different compounds of smells in roses. They include: apple, clover, lemon, violet, green tea leaves, cloves, raspberry, bay, spice, musk, parsley, wine, lily of the valley, linseed oil, fern, moss, hyacinth, orange, anise, honey, marigold, banana, apricot, quince, peppers, melon, and myrrh.

2. There are over 1500 species of roses.

3. You can make tea from rose petals.

4. There is rose flavored ice cream. I tasted it. It actually tastes just like you think a rose would taste. Not good.

5. A rose fossil was found in Colorado. It was over 35 million years old.

6. There is no such thing as a black rose.

7. Roses are grown in almost every country of the world.

8. The world’s oldest living rose is 1000 years old. It is found on a wall at the Cathedral of Hildesheim in Germany.

9. The worlds largest rosebush in is Tombstone, Arizona. It’s trunk is over 6 feet in diameter. (I'm heading to AZ this summer. This is on my “to see” list.)

10. June is National Rose month.

Excerpt

My father and Mr. Yerdin talked of politics and religion, not once acknowledging that anyone else sat at the table. Of course, I shouldn’t have been surprised since more than one sermon had been preached about the place of women and children. We were inferior and didn’t deserve an opinion that differed from our husbands’ or fathers’, so it was best that we just didn’t say anything at all. As the conversation turned to the medical experiments Dad performed on the dog that had been dumped in our yard last week, I tuned out and tried to think of what I would get if I crossed an Iceberg rose with a Sunsprite. A nice pale yellow and only a few thorns. Could be interesting. If Grandma were still alive, she’d appreciate it.
A quick glance at the clock told me they’d only been here forty-five minutes, but it felt like days. After another excruciating hour, Mother presented the cake. The carrot cake (my father’s favorite) had sixteen candles on it. I had not had a cake with candles since my eighth birthday. On that day, the cake was chocolate, my favorite, but that was before Father went insane. I missed those days, the ones before he went crazy. When he would come home and take me canoeing and fishing. When we would wake up early on Saturdays and go to breakfast at Sheila’s Café. I blinked back tears thinking of the father he used to be.
After the cake, I moved to help my mother clean up, but Father put a hand on my wrist, a signal to stay seated. The skin burned where he touched it.
“See,” my father said, “she’s obedient.”
Mr. Yerdin grinned. “Yes, of course she is. I wouldn’t expect anything less from you, Dr. Aren. Dwayne, what do you think?”
Dwayne shrugged and shifted his eyes. Me, I kept my mouth shut and listened for the words that weren’t being said.
Mr. Yerdin eyed me up and down. “Well she certainly has the required blond hair and blue eyes.”
“And she’s a virgin.” My father spoke this a little too loudly and I flinched. My mother paused before picking up Mr. Yerdin’s plate. She met my father’s eyes and nodded. Then the corners of her mouth turned up ever so slightly.
My stomach sank at the thought of what my birthday surprise would be. Although part of me did not want to hear the rest of the conversation, but to escape back into the quiet world of flowers and dirt, another part of me needed to know what my future held, where being a virgin was important.
I cleared my throat. Dwayne smiled a wide toothy smile and my father glowered like I’d done something wrong. Which, of course I had, but it would be worth the punishment if I got the answers I needed.
“Could someone please explain?” There. I asked the question. So out of character for me and yet satisfying in a strange way, like the way I felt when a teacher praised me for a good job. I bit my bottom lip and tasted butterscotch, which was weird because the cake we had, contained nothing of the sort. While I knew asking questions was not an act of disobedience, I also recognized the power in the asking. As if I was taking control, even if that control was small. I took a sip of my water. Father hesitated for a moment and then frowned. He looked up and saw my mother standing in the kitchen, her eyes boring into his. He didn’t look away from her when he answered me.
“You’ll be marrying Dwayne.”

Dream Cast and Theme Songs

Dreamcasts are so much fun!!! Here is mine along with theme songs for each character.

Meet My main Character: Naomi-Obedient, beautiful, and brave, she’s been oppressed her whole life and she spends most of the book trying to figure out how to overcome that.

Naomi

Dreamcast: Chloe Moretz

Theme song: Are You Gonna Kiss me or Not? by Thompson Square

After Naomi, my favorite characters are her boys. I love love love Love triangles, so of course I wrote one. Will Naomi pick the right one in the end?

Kai

Dreamcast: Matt Lanter

Theme Song: Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi

Naomi's thoughts: "I looked up and saw a very handsome boy smiling down at me. He had coarse brown hair that curled around his ears and it looked like he hadn’t shaved in a few days, but he had a smile to die for."

Puck

Dreamcast: Adam Lambert

Theme Song: If I had you by Adam Lambert

Naomi's thoughts: "In the center of the picture sat a young man. He hugged his knees to his chest with hands that had painted black nails. His entire outfit was nearly all black, from the chunky boots to the half ripped t-shirt. I leaned closer to the picture. He had thick eyeliner and his hair stuck up in four-inch spikes, tipped with violet."

Throughout the book Naomi makes several friends, but her best friend is Ruth.

Ruth

Dreamcast: Molly Quinn

Theme Song: Brave by Sara Bareilles

Naomi's thoughts: "Her heart-shaped face was surrounded by hair that burst from her head like orange corkscrew noodles and her baby blue eyes sparkled with excitement. She looked a little crazy, but then I wasn’t naturally a good judge of character."

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed my picks. If you’ve read the book, share your ideas. Who would you have picked?
